About Mrs. Dornfeld
Robbie with Grandma
Hello! Welcome to Third Grade! My name is Dena Dornfeld and I would love to share with you a little bit about myself. This is my 18th year teaching in the Utica Community Schools district. I have taught at Jack Harvey Elementary for most of those years. I have taught 5th and 6th grades, and I was also a literacy consultant for the district. This is my fifth year teaching 3rd grade, and I do have to say I LOVE 3rd grade! I also love this wonderful learning community and I am eager to begin another year here at Harvey - home of the Golden Eagles!
I am married to Michael and we have three beautiful grown daughters: Aimee, Sarah, and Marie. My daughter Sarah is married to Paul. I have two beautiful granddaughters - Lauren is in fourth grade and Mia is in third grade. I also have a grandson named Robert (Robbie), who is a one-year old. I'm so excited to announce that my daughter Aimee will be marrying Colin in Mexico this upcoming May. I also have a beloved dog named Possum. He truly believes he is human and we often forget that he is a dog!
I have lived in the Utica School District all my life. I went to Disco Elementary (now the Shelby Township Library), attended Shelby Jr. High, and graduated from Eisenhower High School. I attended Oakland University, where I received a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education, and a Masters Degree in Reading and Language Arts. I continued with my education at Saginaw Valley State University, earning an Educational Specialist Degree in Principalship. I am proud to say that I am a life-long learner!
Third grade is a very important year in your child's education. It is the first year students receive grades in subject areas. Third graders are expected to be more responsible for their learning. They are becoming more independent yet need plenty of guidance to help make good choices, not just academically, but also socially. On the Parents' Page of my website, I have included a few important articles about educating third graders. I am looking forward to meeting and knowing your child on personal and intellectual levels, so I can help him or her have a positive and fulfilling learning experience.
This year's theme: Third Graders: We Can Do It!! (in honor of Rosie the Riveter) . I look forward to learning and growing with this wonderful group of boys and girls!!!
